Do you want to learn to work with sheet metal, but you are not sure how to start? Are you a little nervous about working with power tools and torches? Would you like to try your hand at working with sheet metal without investing in new tools?
In this class you will learn step by step how to use a jeweler's saw, files, texturing tools, and a drill press to create jewelry. Safe use of this equipment will be emphasized. You will also be introduced to basic soldering skills. We will make 3 types of solder joints that are the foundation of most jewelry making. You may be able to complete a pair of earrings in class, but, the focus is clearly on learning fabrication skills and basic soldering skills.
Pre-requisites: None |
| |
What to bring to class:
- An apron
- Ultra-fine Sharpie with your name on it
- Hard, medium and easy wire solder
- Copper sheet metal, 20 gauge, 1 piece of 6x6 inches
Note: We will be texturing metal, but not using the rolling mill during the class. Also, tube rivets will not be covered. Because we have limited space I am requesting that you not bring a tool chest to class. We will have all the tools and equipment you need. Please wear closed toed shoes to class and bring a head band if you have long hair or bangs that fall into your face. |
