| Bangles - Class Description |
| |

Examples of the jewelry
that can be made with these skills. |
|
| |
If you love to play with your jewelry and you like just a little jingle-jangle, then bangles may be right up your arm (I mean alley). In this two day class you will learn how to form, carve and solder a bangle. Once this is accomplished we will cover ways to add panache here and there by using balled wire, dapped disks and tube set stones. An important part of this class is learning how to solder all the little tubes, balls and disks on a curved surface. Please note: we will not be covering flush set stones in this class.
Pre-requisite: Basic fabrication and basic soldering skills. |
| |
What to bring to class:
- Optional: 1 – 2 feet of 18 g yellow brass wire to make balls. Red brass will not work. (Small amounts for sale in class).
- 1-2 feet of 18 g Argentium wire for silver balls (Rio Grande). You can also make balls from sterling silver wire.
- 3 mm faceted stones and sterling silver, 3 mm die struck tube sets (Rio Grande 692-766).
- Rectangle wire (5mm width x 2 mm thickness). Rio has this available (100-552) in sterling silver. Copper strip also works well for bangles (Rio Grande 132-214). And lastly, look for electrical ground wire in copper at your home improvement store as an option. (You can estimate the length of your bangles by making a card stock bangle – it needs to fit over your hand).
- Hard, medium and easy solder.
Note:
Please wear closed toed shoes to class and bring a head band if you have long hair or bangs that fall into your face. There is no need to bring tools to class. You will be provided with everything you need.
