Cold Joints For Red Hot Mamas: Advanced Class - Class Description
 

 
        

      

Examples of the unique jewelry and components you can make with these skills.

This class will focus on using more advanced cold connections to join metals together and to embellish your metal components. You will learn how to make:

Fancy wire rivets
Telescoping tube rivets
Sliding rivets
Capturing pictures
Telescoping bolts
Tabs
Use of washers
Split rivets
Prongs
Hinges

The following techniques will also be incorporated into the class:
How to rivet on a curved surface (for example, a cuff)
The use of riveting blocks and other useful riveting tools
Designing with cold connections - when to use a hot or cold connection
Developing precision and patience in your work
Using a rolling mill to texture metal
Annealing metal

You will not have time in class to make a necklace. A more reasonable expectation is to make a bracelet if it is important to you to complete a project. I generally am more focused on students building skills than finishing projects in class. If completing a project in class is important to you, please let me know so I can help you accomplish this.

Please wear closed toed shoes to class.

Pre-requisites: Skills in sawing, filing, and drilling. Knowledge of how to make a wire rivet and a tube rivet.

 

Please bring to class: (We will also have the following supplies
available for purchase in class)

3 feet 16 G dead soft round wire
1 piece of silver, copper or brass tubing for tube rivets
20, 22, or 24 gauge sheet metal
Bolts
Beads if you wish to incorporate them into your design

And:
Note book to take notes
Ink pen and ultra fine permanent pen (Sharpie)
Copy of Seller's permit (optional)

NOTE: I am requesting that you not bring a tool case and/or tools with you to class you will have everything you need in the studio.
