This class will focus on using more advanced cold connections
to join metals together and to embellish your metal components.
You will learn how to make:
Fancy wire rivets
Telescoping tube rivets
Sliding rivets
Capturing pictures
Telescoping bolts
Tabs
Use of washers
Split rivets
Prongs
Hinges
The following techniques will also be incorporated into the
class:
How to rivet on a curved surface (for example, a cuff)
The use of riveting blocks and other useful riveting tools
Designing with cold connections - when to use a hot or cold connection
Developing precision and patience in your work
Using a rolling mill to texture metal
Annealing metal
You will not have time in class to make a necklace. A more
reasonable expectation is to make a bracelet if it is important
to you to complete a project. I generally am more focused on
students building skills than finishing projects in class. If
completing a project in class is important to you, please let
me know so I can help you accomplish this.
Please wear closed toed shoes to class.
Pre-requisites: Skills in sawing, filing, and drilling. Knowledge
of how to make a wire rivet and a tube rivet. |
