| Pin With Bezel & Handmade Pinback - Class Description |
| |

Example of the unique jewelry
you can make with these skills.
|
|
| |
Although there are a number of manufactured pinbacks that can be applied to a pin, a handmade one is really the nicest. And that is what you will learn to make in this class, along with a tabbed bezel. If you are more advanced, and move right through your bezel without a hitch, then you might want to add wire to the pin as an embellishment. Otherwise, I recommend shooting for making a great bezel and a pinback.
Pre-requisites: Basic fabrication and soldering.
|
| |
What to bring to class:
-
22 g sheet metal for the platform of the pin.
-
A stone with rounded corners (not too large as to avoid making a heavy pin).
-
Optional for more advanced students: 2x1 mm wire for embellishment
-
24 g fine silver sheet metal for the bezel. This will make a lovely bezel that is heavy enough to withstand some sanding; it is also heavy enough for tabs; I recommend against using sterling silver for bezels. Use your judgment in how much to get – you may want some in your stock for other bezels. You will be getting the sheet metal in 6” widths.
-
Hard, medium and easy solder.
-
18 g square wire (small amount available in class for sale)
-
1.8 mm OD tubing (small amount available in class for sale)
-
Stainless steel spring back wire (available for sale in class)
Ultra-fine Sharpie with your name on it
PLEASE WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES TO CLASS; IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR, PLEASE BRING CLIPS TO TIE YOUR HAIR BACK.
