| Studio Tour - Twisting Wire |
| |
By far the easiest way to get twisted wire is to buy it this
way. Be careful though, some vendors will sell you wire that
is extruded and not really twisted. That is, it has been fabricated
to appear to be twisted but it is not. I much prefer it when
two wires are actually twisted together. Another thing to watch
out for is the gauge. Some vendors will sell 20 gauge twisted
wire which is made from two pieces of 20 g wire twisted together
(my preference). But others will twist very small wires together
so that the two together are 20 g. The latter will be a much
finer wire.
But, lets say you are a purist and you want to twist
all of your own wire. Or, lets say you are not a purist,
but want to twist wires together that are not readily available
for sale. The easiest way to accomplish this is to use an electric
drill. Take a long piece of wire (say 20 feet) and fold it in
half at the 10 foot mark. Place this folded section over a nail
that is held in place in a vise. Twist the two loose ends together
and secure them in the chuck of your electric drill. Slowly run
the drill and you will see that the wires are twisting. Twist
until you achieve the result you want. |
