| Studio Tour - Wire Cutters |
| |
|
|
For cutting wire, Sandvik-Lindstrom
gets my vote. These pliers are made in Sweden of high-grade Swedish
steel. They were originally created for computer hardware manufacturers,
but, they found their way into the jewelry world. The top pair
of semi-flush cut pliers (#8160) are designed to be used with
up to 12 gauge wire. They will give you a micro-bevel cut (not
quite flush) which I find perfectly acceptable. There are other
quality flush cutters on the market, many of which I have tried.
One of them is double flush cutters. Why dont I use them?
Because in some applications I want to be able to cut the wire
in close areas. |

The way the cutter portion of
these pliers is configured will not allow you to do this. I have
also tried some long handled flush cutters. They give a good
flush cut up to 12 g wire, but, it drives me to distraction to
be cutting wire such a long distance away from my fingers. So
thats the story on why I love the micro-bevel cutters by
Lindstrom.
The pliers on the bottom are
flush cutters by Sandvik-Lindstom (#8141). They will cut up to
16 g wire and fit oh so beautifully in the palm of your hand.
You hardly know you are holding a pair of pliers with these cuties.
lower pair of flush cutters can be used on wire up to 16 gauge
and are ideal for fine work (16 g wire for me is finer
work). I use these cutters a lot.
Please take good care of your
pliers. Dont overstress them by using a heavier gauge wire
than is recommended by the manufacturer. Oil the joint once in
a while. Also, dont use them to cut steel. Or paper, or
other weird things. |
