I used Argentium sterling silver wire and
fine silver. The viking knit is hand woven with Argentium, the
clasp is hand made with Argentium as well and the fresh water
pearl is encased in a bezel that I made with fine silver and
a bearing wire made of Argentium. Only the end caps were a purchased
component.

I have been making metal jewelry for about
a year. This is a pendant for the Spring Zing contest that used
all of the skills I've learned. It is made of a nickle silver
base, with a brass and copper flower wire riveted on. I made
the flower parts with a disc cutter, then cut the petals with
snips. I made the ball in the center of the flower from sterling
silver. The stem is flattened copper wire with nickle silver
fold-formed leaves. The leaves, stem, and silver ball are sweat
soldered on. The bail is a handmade "spring". I tumbled
it then hand polished, and it has a mirror finish, but the photos
don't really show the shine very well. It measures 2&1/2"
(including the bail) by 1&1/4".

Honorable Mention

"Heaven's Children" - For this piece
I used steel wire and mixed metals including brass, base metals
and found objects. The focal for this necklace is an antique
German, bisque, baby doll found buried in the grounds near an
old doll factory in Germany. The baby is attached with steel
wire to a base metal filigree piece that acts as "wings"
for the doll who represents all the babies and children hurt
and killed in the holocaust during World War II. Mother of pearl
stars dangle from the wings and symbolize heaven. A quartz crystal,
wrapped with steel wire, hangs below and represents purity and
the crystal sea of heaven. A vintage watch is attached to the
piece using formed steel wire and acts as a reliquary for the
word "live" and also contains stars and beads that
represent the heavens. Inside the reliquary, the background is
vintage text from an old Bible: Deuteronomy 30:19..."This
day I call Heaven and earth as witness against you that I have
set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now, choose
life, so that you and your children may live." The piece
was done in whites and neutral colors to represent purity. Included
are antique chandelier crystal beads, mother-of-pearl beads,
a white freshwater pearl, and a drop-shaped faceted moonstone
bead. The brass bullet casings represent death. Suspended through
the casings are beaded sterling wires with garnets symbolizing
drops of blood. The clasp hooks into a rusted and weathered washer
with the word "forgive" stamped into it. I've added
a vintage St. Jude medal...he is the protector of children.
