Spring Zing Jewelry Contest 2008 - Entries Page 3

This bracelet is entirely handmade. I used sterling silver, red brass, and copper 18g wire, coiled it and hand sawed it into these tiny little rings. I then wove them into the "Shaggy Loops" chainmaille weave. I crafted the toggle clasp with sterling silver sheet, by sawing out the shapes and soldering on handmade jump rings. I then melted some copper wire into the two little accent balls you see soldered onto the clasp which both add interest to the design and strength to the soldered joints. This bracelet feels so good on, and the rings flip and flop around, creating a delightful little noise!

First time playing with mixed metals - brass wire, copper and silver nuggets. This cuff is primary made out of copper. The entire piece has been handcrafted by me.

This timeless pendant was created using sterling silver and brass sheet metal, along with copper, gold-filled and sterling tube wire. The celtic cross was etched onto sterling sheet using a pnp resist and mordant salt. The cross was then sawed out, filed, domed and finished along with a slightly larger brass piece. The etched silver piece was then riveted onto the brass using 14 ga gold filled wire. A tube rivet allows the finished pendant to hang from a sterling 14 ga jump ring. The chain is a sterling rolo that has been modified with intermittent copper and gold filled jump rings and the clasp allows the necklace to hang between 17 to 24 inches. I use this versatile piece almost everyday. I wanted each of the different metals to add it's own color and characteristic to the composition. The subtle but detailed etch required the other components not dominate and detract.

This dramatic copper and sterling necklace has a tribal feel. I sawed, filed and hammered the 2" focal circle out of 16 ga copper sheet. The three Thai silver beads are the only components that are not handmade by me - one fan-shaped in the center and two square ones on the side.

The fan-shaped silver bead is wire wrapped and coiled with 16 and 20 ga copper wire. The substantial spiral links above are in 16 ga copper wire and have been hand hammered. I finished the back of the necklace in handmade 16 ga sterling silver links and clasp. A heavy patina was added to the whole piece. It was then polished and tumbled. It is comfortable to wear and adjustable from 17 to 19 1/2 inches.

"Grow, Live, Learn" is a found object pendant created from mixed metals and resin. I created the bezel with copper pipe and copper sheet, which I sawed, stamped, punched, soldered and antiqued. For the little collage, I textured and cut nickel silver, hand-stamped copper leaves, added found brass objects, copper spacer beads, glass beads and the printed paper word "GROW". I glued them all together and encased them in clear doming resin. I attached a copper fluorite bead with sterling wire at the base of the pendant, and cut and textured two sterling wire jump rings for the top.
